So why dont you tell the readers a little about yourself, your background information, like where you’re from, where you grew up and so on.
TRY: Thank you for having me, I am excited to be here with I-AM-MUSIC! Well , I was born In Freetown Sierra Leone. I lift the country at a very young age, so i can’t remember much about back home (Sierra Leone). Most of my young days were spent in Tottenham North London were I grew up.
Alana: When did you first fall in love with music?
TRY: Music has always been a part of my Life as far as I can remember. I use to love dancing especially to Michael Jackson’s music LMAOOO
Alana: WOWWW....i cant imagine you dancing lol but anyway, Give us a brief history about your music?
TRY: Well I started writing songs from the age off 11. At first it was more for fun but as time progressed, I realised that I was actually very good at it. I remember writing my Lyric’s and then going out to play Football and when i would come back, i would have miss placed them LMAOO. I started taking it more seriously around the age of 16, i started thinking about recording my own Album and building a Recording Studio for myself.
Alana: LMAO, wow... so who are or is your musical influences?
TRY: My musical Influences are Nas / Talib Kweli / Jay-z / Common, thooes are my favourite artists and influences.
Alana: Do you write your own lyrics?
TRY: Yes, all off my songs are written by myself.
Alana: What inspires your lyrics?
TRY: My Lyrics are mostly inspired by things around me, real life Situations.
Alana: What are the majority of your songs about?
TRY: Reality……. things that people can relate too, you know like love / pain / struggles / sex / ect ..
Alana: Do you think it is important for artists to write their own lyrics and why?
TRY: As for me I think is very important because I believe that music comes from the heart. When you write something that’s from your heart other people can relate more to your songs and experiences. That does not mean that I have anything against Artists that don’t write there own lyrics.
Alana: Which recorded song of your own or another artist has made a big impact in your life and why?
TRY: In my First Album I had a song entitled (Daddy), every one that Listened to that song was like " wow man that's a heart felt song". This was because the song was very personal, I was rapping about not having a father figure in my Life.
Alana: What artist are you currently listening too on your IPOD, MP3, Music Player?
TRY: I just purchased Common’s new album " Universal Mind Control ". I have been Listening to that over and over again for the past month.
Alana: Have you done any live shows?
TRY: I always have Live Show’s. My next show will Be in Norwood (South London-UK) on the 20th June 2009. I am awaiting confirmation.
Alana: Describe the vibe of your live shows, what can the fans expect?
TRY: A lot of energy…..
Alana: Are you looking for a record deal and if so would you rather be signed to an independent label or a major label deal? And why?
TRY: Right now am signed to an independent label " 2minds Records " and so far we are doing ok. If a major label comes along with the right deal I don’t see a reason to object because my aim is to distribute my music to a wider audience.
Alana: What is different about Try-Stevens? Compared to what the industry is offering at this current point in time?
TRY: Realness…. Some of what the industry is offering right now is alot of artists making music just for the money and not for the passion.
Alana: What are Try-Stevens plans for the near future?
TRY: working hard and trying my hardest to put Sierra Leone on the Musicial-Historical map…
Getting personal with Try!
